What Style of Martial Arts Do We Teach?
One of the questions we hear all the time at Championship Martial Arts is:
“What style do you teach?”
Is it karate? Taekwondo? Jiu-jitsu?
It’s a great question — and the answer starts with understanding how martial arts work.
Think of martial arts as a big umbrella. Under that umbrella are many different systems like boxing, fencing, karate, taekwondo, and jiu-jitsu. In the same way, karate itself is also an umbrella term that includes many different styles and approaches.
Our foundation is a karate-based system called Shorei-Ryu. This style traces its roots back to traditional Japanese and Okinawan karate, which are known for strong fundamentals, practical techniques, and disciplined training. Shorei-Ryu gives our students a solid base of skills they can build on for years to come.
Now here’s the important part for parents to know:
no two martial arts schools teach exactly the same way — even if they use the same style name. Each school emphasizes different techniques, training methods, and goals. That’s why a label alone doesn’t tell the whole story.
At Championship Martial Arts, we teach a composite system, meaning we blend the best elements of traditional karate with practical, modern training. Our focus is on:
-
Building confidence
-
Developing real-world self-defense skills
-
Helping kids grow physically and mentally
-
Making classes challenging, safe, and fun
That’s also why we always recommend the same thing:
come try a class. There’s no better way to see if a program is the right fit for your child (or for you) than stepping onto the mat and experiencing it firsthand.
If you have questions, reach out anytime — we’d love to talk with you and help you get started. We’ll see you soon 🥋
